Animal care associates is the only vet in the Charleson are that that sees reptiles but I’ve taken my bearded dragon there several times and they are nice, professional, and knowledgeable. I love the staff and will continue trusting them to care for my reptile.
I would give Animal Care Associates 0 stars if I could. I am incredibly disappointed with the care my dog, received there, and I feel compelled to share my experience. Lucas was under their care for diabetes, but what they failed to address was his underlying pancreatitis, which I now know was likely contributing to his symptoms. Despite me mentioning these concerns, the vet did not take them seriously. My biggest frustration, however, was that Lucas's diabetes was never properly managed. I understand it takes time to find the right insulin dosage, but each time I raised concerns about Lucas not getting better, the vet was dismissive. I continued to bring Lucas in for fructosamine tests every month, and every time the results were alarming. Still, the vet assured me everything would be fine once his diabetes was regulated, but it never happened. I was told I could monitor his blood sugar at home once it was stable, but it never got to that point. Without any real way to track his glucose levels, it was impossible to know if the treatment was even working. Unfortunately, Lucas ended up in diabetic ketoacidosis and pancreatitis, both of which could have been avoided with proper care. Despite my repeated calls, nobody at ACA ever responded. I had to take him to a different vet who did more in one visit than ACA did in months. Now, Lucas wears a continuous glucose monitor (CGM), which should have been implemented much earlier. This has made managing his diabetes much easier. If you love and care for your pet, I strongly urge you to find a different veterinary practice. Animal Care Associates’ lack of responsiveness and proper care was not only frustrating but also detrimental to my dog’s health. Save your time, money, and your pet's well-being—take them somewhere that will actually listen and provide the care they need.
Animal Care Associates is one of the few veterinary services in the Charleston- Huntington area that treat exotic pets. Thanks to their diligent and attentive work with my rescue pet Green Iguana, my pet is a happy and healthy animal living his best life, eating freely after suffering a painful illness. Thank you Animal Care Associates!
They have taken wonderful care of my Lilly every time we have visited and especially with her most recent surgery. Really thankful for the staff there.
I am in tears tonight as I found the card sent in by their staff after having my ferret euthanized there a few weeks prior. Thank you again, to those that stayed by my Stinky during the process when i couldn't be. It broke my heart to not be able to be with him, but i know that the staff; despite euthanasia probably being more of a routine, care about the animals they work with. Thank you, Animal Care Associates for both taking care of my baby and I throughout his life and at the time of his death. I will forever be so thankful for each of you.
