Do not go here unless you are in serious crisis... Emergencies Only. With triage protocol, you will be put to the back of the line for every pet that walks through the door in worse condition than yours. As with our family, we were not a priority. The tech took my dog to the back after a two hour wait. They will do nothing in front of you. We arrived at 10am and didn't get discharged until after 9pm. Does that sound like a good quality day to you? We asked for dog water twice, nothing came. My dog drank nothing all day, he wasnt given subcutaneous fluids until 9pm. And no meds were given for his infection. kept in a cage from noon until 9pm, nervous as hell. We found scabs, bloody track marks on his belly at home, these people were in such a hurry to give an ultrasound, but they didn't have the decency to clean the blood off, and who knows whose blood it was? Sickening, his abdomen was so hot and inflamed. We made a huge mistake coming here because his condition got much worse, not better, they gave no immediate attention or acute care, and his infection was getting way ahead of him. If it were me i would have given an IV of meds the minute i had the pet in custody. and he would have started recovery under their care, and been monitored. No. They sent him home with no appetite, distressed and weak, with 65 pills and tablets to eat , so we could play Doctor at home. The experience here caused major setbacks and set us up for failure. He seized on a Sat. night, so this was the only option we had. This place is wildly understaffed and you're lucky if you get a friendly staff, they are hit or miss. One doctor, a tall guy, Dr. K , had no regard, no empathy, stoic, i really could not believe his tag said 'medical director'. He gave me no confidence at all he knew what he was doing. NONE. The tech had to redirect this guy when he was about to stick my dog with the wrong needle. How comfortable would you be with the wrong syringe going in your arm? Thank God for capable Technicians. One of the desk girls was lovely, she sat on the left, brown hair, very empathic and efficient. And there was an aloof blonde that sat on the right, she didn't even make eye contact and she barely spoke to any patients more than a word or two. Like a robot. I wasted about 1000 dollars and my dog's time and trust, believing i was serving his best interest getting emer. care, but it was a fatal mistake. My error in judgment. There's a list of local vets below. These were recommended to me. please use your own discretion and keep your pet as first priority. Good luck, and better luck to your family, and God bless your fur baby! recommended to me: Dunes vet clinic River oaks animal hospital, Dr. meg The Ark animal hospital, Dr andrews Pawleys island, Dr stone
If only Google would allow me to give more stars to the Animal Emergency Hospital of the Strand. 24 hours ago, I didn't know if my little guy would ever come home with me again. This *SUPERSTAR* staff not only treated me with compassion and humanity in one of the darkest hours of my life, they literally saved my little guy's life ❤️ I am writing this with (happy) tears in my eyes not only to thank the staff for treating my little guy literally like one of their own. I'll forever be in their debt. Trust your babies to this knowledgeable staff. I will never forget their kindness and compassion 🐾💛🐾
I went to Animal Emergency Hospital of the Strand a few weeks ago at 4 AM with my oldest pit mix fearing he had an intestinal blockage. I called ahead of time to ask about dog aggressive dog protocol and to see how they went about catering to them in emergency type situations- my dog was stable he was just showing concerning symptoms and I wanted him to be seen before it potentially took a turn for the worst. The customer service team was phenomenal- I can’t remember the gentleman I spoke with but he was very helpful, told me how the check in process would work. When I got there I checked in, waited in my vehicle per my request for my dog/and other dogs safety. Waited about an hour or so and was called back. The technician that assisted made it a point to try to get my pet comfortable with her before having to run any diagnostics. She asked if it was okay that she sat by him and gave him affection, while she took his medical history down. The staff there have to be miracle workers because most times to get X-rays on my dog sedation is required- I had failed o mention that when they took him back- they bring him back to me I ask about it and they said he was great he didn’t need sedation. He was a happy boy and enjoyed her so much that I have no reason not to believe her, it was amazing. Doctor Rakauskas was amazing- he explained the radiographs very well. Be also made it a point to note anything that looked abnormal that may not be specifically related to what was going on at that time- but some thing to mention to his regular Vet.Thankfully he did not have a blockage, and I was able to leave without my bank account being drained & my boy was okay. He is 100% back to his normal self now.
On a busy Christmas Eve afternoon/evening the gang took excellent care of my dog who needed first aid care for an open wound on her neck. I arrived to a very busy hospital with all rooms already occupied yet in a hour they were in a room speaking with me about her condition. An hour later we were leaving with my dog having been treated as well as having an excellent conversation with the veterinarian about what to do moving forward. I had been here once before for my other dog 4 years ago who had been treated by the hospital and we were happy with the results then as well. I try not to review a place until I've been there more than once to determine if the service was consistent. Here it is, and it's excellent.
Dr. Cousins is Unparalleled ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I am writing this review with immense appreciation and gratitude towards Dr. Cousins and the exceptional care she provided. My experience at her clinic was nothing short of remarkable, and I am genuinely amazed by her expertise and dedication. Not only did our furry friend received exceptional care from Dr. Cousins; so did a plethora of additional pets. During our time at the clinic, she performed surgery, treated snake bites and at least 18 other animals in need. Her compassion and genuine love for animals were evident in every interaction. She has gone above and beyond, not only as a skilled surgeon but also as a dedicated veterinarian, making a significant impact on the lives of numerous animals and their human.
