Would definitely recommend over other emergency vets in the area based on quality of care, compassionate team, and reasonable (emergency level) pricing. I'm so grateful for the care that the Blue Pearl staff provided to Winnie (and me) during such a stressful time. Had severe gastroenteritis (hemorrhagic) and was spitting up/hematochezia despite antiemetics and imaging without frank obstruction. Ultimately decided surgery was the next step after seeing Dr Poltis. I was so worried since Winnie had an arrhythmia from the sedation for her spay, but the team took extra care of her and had no issues. Only an inflamed small intestine! Biopsies showed infection with allergic immune response. While she was hospitalized, the team let me come back to see her and called with regular updates. Now over a month later she is as sassy as ever and eating her new hydrolyzed diet.

Horrible - and I hate the day I ever have to go back here. My vet was not available to help with my sick puppy and sent me to Blue Pearl. Two days of diarrhea and vomiting, dehydrated, and wouldn't drink water. I called ahead and was told the wait time would be about 3 hours. I accepted that because I was truly worried about my puppy. Upon my arrival I was handed a clip board and told to fill out the intake form, bring it back up, and then someone would come out to triage my dog. I looked around, there was ONE other person in the waiting rooms. When I brought the clip board back, another man walked in with a cat. This cat was triaged before my dog. The tech triaging kind of chuckled when she said "I always forget we have a triage room" as she made her way to me and honestly, that already rubbed me the wrong way. You forgot? You triage sick pets in the waiting room? When she came over to us, she invited us to the triage room - she didn't forget this time. She offered ZERO help and seemed annoyed that it took me a moment to get situated. Coats, hats, puppy excited to see someone and pulling on the leash, a bag with water and snacks to prepare for the wait, and the stress of a sick 5 month old puppy... but yes - I'll hurry and get to the triage room you forget about. In triage she struggled to listen to the excited puppy's heart... so she skipped that step and said she'd get it later in the back. She asked if he had eaten something he shouldn't have, and wouldn't you know that I would have led with that tidbit if I knew?! She asked me that question 3 different ways but didn't ask anything else. Maybe the consistency of the stool? The frequency? Nothing... so then we were sent back to the waiting room. From there I listened to about 7 hours of receptionist calling people to come pick up remains of their deceased pets, receptionist giggling when someone asked a question that they found stupid, receptionist recommending people seek emergency care somewhere else (even recommending a place in Pittsburgh saying "it's about a 4 hour drive but it's not that bad"), receptionist turning people away because "we are short staffed and can't take anyone else", watched so many people come and go, got a snarky receptionist tell me that my dog's condition is not critical and that triage has him listed at stable - this was 6 hours after triage, got nasty attitude for asking what place in line we were, was lied to about being up next (5 hours in) and then before I left WITHOUT CARE I asked a receptionist how many more were ahead of us to which she started listing 4 different medical procedures that I wouldn't recognize and then followed by listing 4 more pets that were in-patient critical condition that will also come before me. It's the attitude in this place that made me leave. I understand my pet wasn't critical, but it's still my pet that I love and care about, so just a little bit of compassion would have been wonderful. I am scared that something is wrong, a little bit of help would have gone a long way. Needless to say, I left. They pretty much wanted the last stragglers to leave. The guy with the cat was still waiting. I have 12 hours before my regular vet opens, I'll have to wait until then. So no, this place is not great. And see the picture to see it's also not clean based on the many feces splatters on chairs in the waiting room. And don't get me started on the lady that started sweeping around my finally sleeping puppy and then said they were getting ready to come around with a mop (while she left all sorts of trash behind including someone's empty coffee cups in between chairs)

We brought our very quickly very sick dog to Blue Pearl when emergency vet services in Rochester refused her. It took us almost 2 hours to get there from Brockport, due to weather conditions (would have been 20 minutes in Rochester). The vets and techs were amazing, responded to her, stabilized her, and were incredibly supportive and sympathetic. They kept us updated during the 10 hours that she was there, and recommended that we move her to Orchard Park Veterinary Medical Center which has more extensive facilities. Thank you Blue Pearl for all that you did for our sweet girl, and for all that you did for us.

Yesterday, we had a rather concerning experience with our greater Swiss Mountain dog, Winnie. We woke up to find that she was having runny stool and had gone to the bathroom in the house, which is very unlike her. As the morning progressed, her symptoms worsened—she began straining when trying to go, then vomiting right after eating. The final straw was when we noticed blood in her stool. Fearing it might be a blockage or something more serious like bloat, we didn’t hesitate to rush her to BluePearl Pet Hospital near the airport. When we arrived, the intake process was pretty straightforward, and we were quickly moved into a triage room. However, it was an incredibly hectic day at the hospital, with several dogs coming in with even more severe conditions, which naturally took priority. Though it was tough to wait, we understood that Winnie’s condition, while alarming, wasn’t life-threatening, unlike some of the other cases. It was heartbreaking to witness a few families having to make the difficult decision to say goodbye to their beloved pets. Despite the chaos, the staff remained attentive, checking in with us regularly. It took about five hours before Winnie was seen, during which they even called in a second doctor to help with the overflow of cases. When it was finally our turn, they conducted X-rays to check for any foreign objects. Thankfully, the X-rays were clear, which was a huge relief since it meant we could avoid surgery. The bloodwork confirmed that Winnie was suffering from gastroenteritis. While not ideal, it was a much better diagnosis than what we feared. With the right medication and a few key procedures, she was in a much better place by the time we left. The entire visit took around seven hours and cost us $1,200. While the wait was long, and the situation was stressful, I believe it’s important to have realistic expectations in such circumstances. This isn’t our first time dealing with a pet emergency, and I think the staff, doctor, and support team did a great job given the circumstances. I’m thrilled with the outcome, knowing that others visiting that day weren’t as fortunate. Having access to a service like BluePearl for our furry family members is truly a privilege, and that’s something we should all keep in mind. For those unfamiliar, BluePearl Pet Hospital is part of a larger network of specialty and emergency veterinary hospitals across the United States. The organization was founded in 1996 by veterinarians Neil Shaw and Darryl Shaw in Tampa, Florida, starting as a single hospital. Over the years, it grew into a nationwide network, providing advanced care in specialties such as surgery, oncology, neurology, and critical care. In 2015, BluePearl was acquired by Mars, Incorporated—a global leader known for its wide range of brands, including pet care products like Pedigree, Whiskas, and Royal Canin. This acquisition was part of Mars’ strategy to expand its presence in the pet healthcare sector. Being under the umbrella of Mars Veterinary Health, which also owns other veterinary chains like VCA Animal Hospitals and Banfield Pet Hospital, allows BluePearl to leverage extensive resources, research, and innovations in pet care. The Buffalo location of BluePearl, where we took Winnie, operates as a specialty and emergency care provider. They offer services 24/7, serving as a referral center for primary care veterinarians in the region. When pets require specialized treatment beyond what general veterinarians can provide, they often refer cases to BluePearl for advanced diagnostics and treatments. The hospital is equipped with state-of-the-art technology, ensuring that pets receive the highest standard of care. Our experience with BluePearl, while challenging, reminded us of the vital role these hospitals play in our pets’ lives. They provide not only emergency and specialized care but also contribute to the larger ecosystem of pet health and wellness. As pet owners, it’s essential to appreciate the availability of such advanced care and the dedicated professionals who make it possible.

I had to take our dog into Blue Pearl earlier this morning after he ate a tea bag. They advised me to contact Animal Poison Control first, which I did. Immediately after that, I ran him over to Blue Pearl where I was greeted by Dawn, at the desk, the woman I had spoke to earlier on the phone. I immediately completed the paperwork and they took our dog into the back to give him the drug to induce vomiting. They had to give him two different drugs before he was finally able to bring up the tea bag. The communication between the Tech, Rachael and also after Dr. Doyle came in to explain everything was absolutely awesome!!! There were several other emergencies also going on at the time. The care, compassion, and expedient service were beyond amazing!!! I cannot thank the staff enough for their professionalism and the expedient, outstanding service we received. Many thanks to everyone involved this morning! Way to go Blue Pearl! ☆☆☆☆☆
