Not a good experience at all. One would think that they would show more kindness and compassion in this type of environment. I had to put my lil Dachshund down 24hrs after being at this place. What’s crazy is she had been to a different pet ER in the height of Covid. And even with those protocols. They found a way to make us both comfortable. But, Not at this Pet ER. This place needs new management and new employees.
I was impressed with the care they gave my dog. The office staff was thorough in their questions and upfront about costs of procedures. The vet gave a clear, detailed analysis of my dog's health and explained the x-rays and meds carefully. The staff reviewed the discharge information as well. Overall, an excellent experience.
Upon arrival at around 0230 AM with our dog who in his final hours from renal failure. Met at the door by a sign that says, “if you can’t be nice, you will be asked to leave.” Not the welcome we expected knowing the outcome of our visit. We explained to the receptionist that we were there for end of life. We stayed in our car and completed paperwork which was ok. We were able to provide comfort to our dog with not distraction in a waiting room. After about 30 minutes they came out to get our dog and said they would come get us in 30 minutes. After about an hour my wife was frantic not knowing what was going on since we had to remain in our car. She called the receptionist and pleaded with her to let us be with our dog. They let us in and put us in a small comfort room. Within a few minutes our dog was wheeled in on a gurney strapped down I am sure for his safety. The tech who wheeled him said that our dog was looking for us which was very hard to hear but a nice thought anyway. When a blanket was removed that covered him, all 4 of his lags were bandaged as they could not find a vein since he was so dehydrated. Another tech came in and gave him an injection in his muscle which was a sedative. She said they would be back in about 10 minutes. His breathing began to slow and after 20 minutes the tech came back and we asked for more time with him and if they could give him more sedative. The tech left and within a few minutes his respiration stopped and he passed away in our arms. The need to euthanize him was not required at least while we were there. I would think that everyone sitting in their car would like better communication as to what is going on with their pet. I felt there was empathy by the staff but because we were not in the building, they tended to forget about us and all we had was a phone call to the receptionist. We needed to be kept informed which did not happen during this very important time with our pet.
Our barely 12 week old puppy had an accident with another of our dogs causing his eye to pop out of his head. When all was said and done, we couldn’t have been happier with everything about this office! We were home within 3 and a half hours with an hour drive each way. I also thought they were very reasonably priced, and much less than any other vets in our area. The best part, my Bug doesn’t appear to have any permanent damage. Thank you all again, so much!
Yesterday, January 19, our 14 year-old puppy died in our arms overnight. Knowing that all the vets are closed on Sundays and not wanting to have the pup lay at home for any length of time, we searched for a facility to take our boy in and see that he is taken to a crematorium For cremation. Pet meds ER was open and told me over the phone that we could bring the dogs “body“ in. When we got there after a 45 minute drive, the technician would not allow me inside where it was warm, but instead, handed me a clipboard and told me to fill out the information and that she would call me When she received it. She was very Kurt, bordering on rudeness, lack of caring, never called my pet by his name, just a body. A person like this should not work in a veterinary clinic at, particularly at such a painful and stressful time in a person‘s life. We left the facility and located at crematorium Holloway, Holloways Holloway funeral home in Salisbury. There, they received us promptly and treated our pup and ourselves with dignity and respect. I would never suggest anyone go to pet ER for any kind of veterinary service unless there was absolutely no other recourse.
