An update to the message I originally posted (below). Within 10 minutes of posting my review, I got a call from Suds. They were incredibly nice and apologized for how busy they had been. They asked me to bring Tika back and did a fabulous job the second time around. I was pretty impressed by their sincere customer service and wish to make me happy. So, in hindsight, maybe they were just having an off day. *** If you know me, you know that I believe in the power of feedback. I rely on it when I'm looking for new services. And, fortunately, 90% of the feedback I leave is almost always positive. Unfortunately, this time, it's not. For $138 (+ a 20% tip), I expected my dog's grooming to be far more than sloppy. While the people were very nice, and the groomer who handled my dog, Tika, was very nice, and when I picked her up I was excited because she DID look "cleaned up" (her fur had been long and overgrown, and a curly mess), I got her home and realized they hadn't made her look ANYTHING like the photo I had provided. The photo showed a very closely shorn coat - smooth like velvet. It was anything but: the long fur on her legs wasn't even touched. The fur under her tail had clumps (I had to cut them off). The fur on her back was not smooth in any way (see photos). I was just so disappointed. It was a total waste of money. Maybe it's that I was spoiled because Rachel, the owner of the dog grooming establishment that I used in the San Francisco Bay Area (Fluffy Doggy), insisted on being the one to groom Tika because Tika was so cooperative and enjoyed being pampered. And Rachel always did such a precise, beautiful job (for $65 + $20 tip)... I wonder - if Suds and Scissors hadn't had such a mass of dogs in the shop at once, might they have been able to spend a little bit more time on Tika? I am so sad that it was such a disappointment and waste of money... Back to square one. (The last two photos are what I had requested - the last one had been shown to Sudz.)
My dog is no longer with us but Suds and Scissors took great care of her for years. They were very sensitive to her changes in need as her dementia progressed and did everything they could to make her more comfortable. Muppet was adorable until the end.
I am so grateful for this spot! They take good care of my fluffy girl and pay attention to the details. Yes, they charge Carmel prices, but you get what you pay for!
Highest ratings! Suds & Scissors continues to be the most trusted and experienced pet grooming service in the Carmel and Monterey area. I especially appreciate how gentle and compassionate the groomers are with our 2 dogs, knowing they are safe and receiving expert care. This wonderful salon has expertise in grooming mutts and rescues like ours to glamorous show dogs. It's always a joy to pick up our clean, fluffy, beautifully groomed dogs from Suds & Scissors!
Do not bring your pet here if you love them- these people are hacks and just shave and hurt your dog. I brought in my Springer in for the 4th time. When I chose this groomer, I went through the Springer cut, they said “yes of course, we know”. Dropped him off and they just shaved him, ignored the proper cut for a Springer and that never in 14 years has any groomer ever shaved him. When I commented, they said “well your fault for not telling us what to do.” No professional groomer would shave a springer like a poodle with complete disregard for his natural hair. After 2 years of bringing him, having it in his profile, and saying the typical “Springer cut”, they said it was my fault, because he was matted. I said no, I brush him every day. As I always do before a grooming, I brushed him for over an hour before bringing him in to reduce the undercoat and ensure a clean cut. He’s old. They did not apologize for getting it wrong, didn’t check it see if he had been matted, just said it most of been my fault. Then, the desk person said well then you should have been more clear on the style- not an apology, just it was my fault for them giving him a shave, for implying I don’t look after my dog, or the 6 months it took for it to grow out. Rude, disrespectful, and lack of knowledge of dogs. No groomer in 12 years has ever shaved a springer- it is their lack of knowledge and lack of care for dogs. Do not bring your dog here
